Chapter 21

The group of freely floating astronauts on the other side looked at the door in amazement. They had seen multiple examples of magic by that point, but it had been through a computer screen. That complicated piece of technology had allowed them to accept what they were shown without fully believing it. Now they didn’t have that option with the magically created door staring them right in the face.

“Uh,” They stuttered in dumbfounded awe and confusion. No one had told them the method of rescue, so they had expected something a little more normal and in line with what they were used to.

“What is that? Is it safe?” One of them asked, as they recovered from the shock.

“What? Of course, it’s safe I use it all the time to travel to places.” Charles studied their apprehensive faces that were clearly warring with their desire to leave the station. He realized that he would need to cross over first and show them that it was safe. It was not something he was against; it just wasn’t what they had been expecting.

Waving them away from the spell created opening, he had one foot crossed over when the door to the warehouse was blown off its hinges. “You’re not leaving me behind!” The silver missile screamed into his mind.

Alli was in a panic at the thought of them leaving her behind and had rushed over as soon as she felt Charles touching the soul connection. Their relatively close proximity allowed her to feel it, even when it wasn’t her connection he was touching.

“Alli NOO!!” Kira screamed as the massive animal barreled into Charles and pushed them both through.

Charles flew through the air, arms flailing wildly at the sudden loss of gravity. It was worse for Alli as she hit the bulkhead at full speed, causing the metal to scream as it deformed around her body. The deathly whistle of escaping air filled the cabin. The impact had cracked the welds that kept them safe.

“Go!” He screamed at the crew. There was no time for him to explain what they were about to go through.

“Use it now,” Charlotte called out to him from inside the lab. If they missed their chance now, there wouldn’t be a second one. The last of the people pushed off a wall and sailed through the opening, hitting the hard cement face first. “We’ll see you in a while.”

He nodded and let the door close while looking into Kira’s wide, fearful eyes. She was being constrained by the others, otherwise; he was certain she would have joined them in space.

“What was that?” He barely held back from screaming at Alli. Her tail and head were drooping, and she refused to look at him as she drifted sadly around the space.

Not giving her a chance to answer, he pulled out the town creation gem and commenced doing the favor Gaia had asked of them. He was going to use the space station to create a town in space for her.
